Indian cricketer MS Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, born July 7, 1981, is an Indian professional cricketer.

Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Bihar (now in Jharkhand) into a Hindu Rajput family to Pan Singh and Devaki Devi.

Dhoni completed his training at DAV Jawahar Vidya He Mandir, where he started playing football as a goalkeeper, but later coach Keshav Banerjee he turned to cricket on the recommendation.

Dhoni made his first-class debut for Bihar in 1999. He made his debut for the Indian cricket team in his ODI against Bangladesh on 23 December 2004.

He represented the Indian cricket team from 2007 until 2017 in the limited overs format and from 2008 until 2014 he captained the team in Test cricket.

Dhoni was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his $1.5 million during the auction of the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was the most expensive new item at auction.

Dhoni holds the rank of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army Parachute Regiment (TA 106 Battalion).
