Following a loss on penalties against Sporting CP in the Round of 16 of the Europa League, Arsenal was eliminated.

The Gunners seized the lead at the Emirates after 19 minutes, thanks to captain Granit Xhaka, after the first leg ended 2-2 in Portugal.

Sporting continued to pose a threat, though, and Pedro Goncalves’ remarkable goal from just inside the halfway line in the 62nd minute brought the score even.

As regular time ended at 1-1, Arsenal had several chances to win it in overtime, but Sporting goalkeeper Antonio Adan produced several outstanding saves.

As Sporting won 5-3 on penalties to move on to the quarterfinals, Adan would then step up once more in the shootout to stop Gabriel Martinelli.
