Due to the brilliant spell by fast bowler Shamar Joseph, West Indies clinched a remarkable win over Australia by eight runs in the second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday. Joseph, who needed a scan after retiring hurt with a toe injury inflicted by a Yorker from Mitchell Starc on Saturday night, took 7-68 runs on Sunday as West Indies bowled out Australia for 207 runs, giving West Indies their first win in Australia since 1997. Chasing 216 runs for victory, Australia started the fourth day’s play at 60-2 and with Steve Smith and Cameron Green at the crease, they were in a strong position.

Early bowlers Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph were not particularly threatening, so West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite threw the ball to Joseph after just 45 minutes, which proved almost immediately effective.
While Joseph proved costly, his extra pace troubled all batsmen, and the more wickets he took, the more assured West Indies became.
He dismissed Green and Travis Head in successive deliveries, and he had previously dismissed Michell Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Alex Carey, and Pat Cummins in the first session.
When he cleaned up Josh Hazlewood to end the match, he put in a memorable performance.
Joseph said, “I was just thinking about the basics, keeping it simple.”
“I was just trying to get my rhythm and it was important for me.”
Throughout the carnage, Smith stood firm for the Australian team, answering his critics with a splendid innings of 91 runs, but it was in vain as the weaker players shocked the World Test Champions.
