In a double blow for India, who suffered a defeat in the series opener in Hyderabad.
Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second Test in Visakhapatnam starting February 2.
On the fourth day of the match against Hyderabad, Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury while batting. In the bottom of India’s second innings, Jadeja hit a quick single but was caught by a direct hit from Ben Stokes. He was seen clutching his thigh muscles tightly as he sprinted to run. SportEye previously reported that team management was awaiting scans, which would rule him out of the match. Meanwhile, Rahul complained of pain in his right quadriceps muscle and was forced to miss the match.
Following the duo’s absence, the selection committee included the trio of Sarfaraz Khan, Saurabh Kumar and Washington Sundar in the squad for the second Test. All of them were part of the India A team for the ongoing series against England Lions. Sarfaraz broke into the squad after scoring a brilliant 160-ball 161 (18 fours, five sixes) in the second unofficial Test between India A and England Lions last week. Saurabh Kumar also scored a whistle in the second innings, contributing to the home team’s victory in this innings.
