The Indian team entered white-ball cricket mode in their second innings and scored 181 runs in just 24 overs before declaring the innings. India’s run rate during an inning of at least 20 overs was 7.54, which is the highest run rate ever recorded in a Test match.
They broke Australia’s previous record, which was 241/2 against Pakistan in Sydney, in only 32 overs. These runs were scored by the Australians at a run rate of 7.53.
India also achieved the fastest team hundred in Test cricket history, which is noteworthy.
India’s captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started the team’s innings by putting up a 98-run partnership in just 71 balls, or 11.5 overs.
India crossed the 100-run milestone as Rohit was dismissed in just 12.2 overs, or 74 total balls.
India broke Sri Lanka’s record, which had stood for 22 years. They had surpassed the 100-run threshold against Bangladesh in the 2001 Asian Test Championship in just 13.2 overs, or 80 balls.

Kishan was unbeaten at 52 in 34 balls at the time of the declaration; his innings included two sixes and four boundaries. He scored runs at a strike rate of 152.94 percent.
The fourth-highest strike rate (SR) by an Indian player in a Test inning (of at least 50 runs) belongs to Kishan, who had a 152.94 SR. The renowned all-rounder Kapil Dev, who hammered 89 in just 55 balls against England in 1982 at Lord’s, holds the record for the highest SR by an Indian batsman in an inning of at least 50 runs.
In terms of strike rate, Kishan’s innings were the third-fastest in Test history among designated wicketkeepers. Australia’s Adam Gilchrist earned his runs with a strike rate of 172.88 during his 59-ball 102* against England in Perth in 2006/07. Then comes Rishabh Pant, who beat Sri Lanka in Bengaluru in 2022 and hit 50 runs off 31 balls for a strike rate of 161.29.
