As Cristiano Stellini’s interim tenure at Tottenham began with a 1-1 draw at Everton, Michael Keane’s stunning 90th-minute equaliser dealt another blow to the club’s bid for a top-four Premier League result.
After Abdoulaye Doucoure was sent off for elbowing a Tottenham player in the face, Harry Kane’s penalty seemed to move Tottenham up to third place in the standings.
However, the odds were levelled when Lucas Moura also received a red card two minutes from time, just before Keane’s thunderbolt saved a crucial point in Everton’s fight against the decline.
Sean Dyche’s team can escape the bottom half of the table with just a point. Tottenham has played two more games than their competitors for a spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season, but they are now tied for fourth position with Newcastle and Manchester United in terms of points.

Stellini was in command for the first time since Antonio Conte, his previous manager, was fired.
Conte’s fate was sealed when he yelled at the Tottenham team during a 3-3 tie with Southampton, which was at the bottom of the table.
However, there was little evidence of a new beginning as the visitors once again blew a promising situation against a team that was fighting for survival.
Everton’s chances of staying in the league improved after Dyche led the team to three 1-0 wins in its first four home games as manager.
But the Toffees’ defence was fortunate to avoid two significant wasted opportunities from Kane in the opening 15 minutes.
During the international break, the England captain should have been thrilled to pass Bobby Moore and become his country’s all-time top scorer.
But Kane’s miss-hit shot gave Keane the chance to clear the ball off the line with his first chance, before he missed the goal with an unmarked header from Ivan Perisic’s cross.
Midway through the first half, the game was halted so that players who were fasting during Ramadan could break their fast.
However, after the game resumed, there wasn’t much goalmouth activity until the second half.
The home team’s absence of a focal point up front without the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin was once again made clear by the fact that Everton has scored the fewest goals in the Premier League this season of any team.
Just after halftime, Idrissa Gueye selfishly fired over from the side of the box when teammates were better positioned to take the shot, costing the home team a fantastic opportunity to take the lead.
For the first hour, it seemed as though Doucoure’s moment of insanity had undermined Dyche’s men’s efforts.

After an argument between the two, the French midfielder slapped Kane in the face, and he had no reason to object to receiving a straight red card.
Everton’s self-destruction did not end there, as Keane foolishly dived in on Cristian Romero seconds later to give away a penalty.
For his 24th club goal of the season, Kane coolly sent international colleague Jordan Pickford the wrong way.
However, Tottenham struggled to capitalise on their man advantage for the majority of the final minutes as they welcomed Everton on in search of an equaliser.
Gueye’s dipping attempt was turned over by Lloris’ fingertips before Lucas was also sent off for a hasty tackle on Keane, bringing the score even.
And Everton’s perseverance was rewarded when centre-back Keane sauntered forwards and slammed a powerful blow into the far top corner.
