Once again, Moeen Ali helped CSK restrict LSG to 205 for seven runs with impressive numbers of 4 for 26 from his overs.
Nicholas Pooran’s late hitting (32 off 18 balls, 2x4s, 3×6) and fellow West Indian Kyle Mayers’ ferocious opening attack (53 off 22 balls, 8x4s, 2×6) failed to help LSG.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the skipper of CSK, used the slow bowlers wisely while playing on home soil to secure the team’s first IPL victory.

Moeen Ali, a seasoned player, got rid of Mayers, K.L. Rahul, Krunal Pandya, and Marcus Stoinis (21) to stop LSG from catching up.
In his first over, which he gave up 18 runs on, pace bowlers Deepak Chahar (4-0-55-0) and Tushar Deshpande (4-0-45-2), who replaced Ambati Rayudu as the impact player, underwhelmed with three wides and two no-balls.
In the fourth over, the flamboyant Mayers and Rahul helped the squad reach 50.
Chahar, Deshpande, and Ben Stokes’ subpar bowling (1-0-18-0) didn’t help CSK’s cause because they allowed runs to be scored during the powerplay while LSG’s hitters put up a potent riposte in pursuit of 218.
Rahul played second fiddle while Mayers hit a second straight fifty to give LSG a head start. Mayers, who had reached 79 in only 5.2 overs, was caught in the deep by Conway after attempting a big hit off Moeen Ali against the flow of play.

LSG soon fell to 82 for 3 as Ali and Mitchell Santner entered the fray after losing Deepak Hooda (2) and Rahul (20), both of whom were going for big shots.
Earlier, Dhoni hit two sixes, one of which was 89 metres long, enthralling the cheering Chepauk audience.
A delirious audience caught a glimpse of “Thala” (Dhoni) as he hit two big sixes before being bowled for 12 off 3 balls by Mark Wood while attempting a third. During his brief run, the legendary CSK skipper reached the milestone of 5,000 runs in the IPL.
After the opening blitz by Gaikwad (57 off 37 balls, 3x4s, 4x6s) and Conway (47 off 29 balls, 5x4s, 2x6s), Shivam Dube (27 off 16 balls, 1×4, 3x6s), and Ali made significant contributions. (19).

Ambati Rayudu’s 14-ball 27, which went unnoticed because of Dhoni’s fireworks, featured two sixes and an equal number of fours.
After taking five wickets in LSG’s rout of Delhi Capitals on Sunday, Wood was less successful this time around, finishing with 3 for 49 from his four overs.
Thanks to a standout performance by leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (3 for 28 in 4 overs) in the middle overs, LSG was able to stop the freely scoring CSK batsmen.
Gaikwad and Conway, who were given the opportunity to bat, took full advantage of the fielding limitations by scoring 79 runs in the first six overs.
Gaikwad kept up his good form from the first game of the season, when he hit 92. In the eighth over, the team reached 100 with the help of the New Zealand left-hander.
Gaikwad lofted three sixes with ease in Krishnappa Gowtham’s first over, making it look like batting was very easy.(5th of the inning). He kept adding runs, and a cut for a six off Wood highlighted his incredible form.
In the eighth over, the CSK starters reached 100 runs while the LSG bowlers looked completely lost.
